HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface, and it is a very high-speed data cable designed for the digital transfer of very high quality video and/or audio.

- In most devices, the HDMI cable carries both the video and audio signals, cutting down on the wires you need to carry
- HDMI supports the HDCP copy protection on many high definition movies, including Blu-Ray Discs and many online stores such as Amazon Instant Video and iTunes
- HDMI is compatible with (via a converter) DVI, DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, and Thunderbolt. If your device outputs any of these kinds of signals, chances are you can convert it to HDMI
